“Going on a cancer hunt”

I lost my friend Renee Coley Clyde to colon cancer in 2017. A few years later I was diagnosed with breast cancer during Oregon’s forest fires at the beginning of the pandemic.

I kept thinking that I could have been a better friend to Renee had I been through cancer myself. If I had only known…

This book is a collection of my art and writing from my personal journal. It is not perfect. But it is real and at times oddly chuckle worthy. It is my attempt to share what I wish I knew back then.

When I was going through cancer I couldn’t find honest information on what neuropathy was really like. Or what radiation was really like. Or why I was gaining weight on my treatments when Hollywood shows the thread thin cancer patients. Information was either very surface, “You may or may not get that tingling in your hands and feet,” or very scientific medical articles without any mention of how patients actually felt or coped with it all. My book is an attempt at sharing the “just right” information.

I hope my work is helpful to you - whether you’re going through cancer or if someone you love is going through cancer.

“We Had to Be”

An anthology of poetry. Available now on Amazon.

My artwork appears on the cover of the Anthology, “We Had To Be,” edited by Joely Serino. This collection of poems comes from writers of all genders in 8 different countries. All poets in this book are survivors of breast cancer. My artwork, Serino’s talent and labor, and all poems were donated. Because we self-published through Amazon, all profits go DIRECTLY to METAvivor. METAvivor is the only non-profit that donates 100% of donations to stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer (stage 4 MBC) research. Their website is www.metavivor.org

Notebook for people who think differently

My oldest daughter, Sweet G, drew this cover and we collaborated and designed the note pages together.

I’ve got four kids, all with dyslexia &/or ADHD. The traditional page note taking taught in class doesn’t super work for them. Here is a way to try that might work for you! It looks just like your friends’ notebooks (well, a little more rad thanks to Sweet G’s art) but is designed with images and hints for you to help your brain grab onto the information in traditional classes. Give it a go! If you have an idea, contact me. Let’s make a notebook that works for your brain!
